Here are some questions and answers pertaining to the Dream Flight USA shuttle and its mission.

Q. How many students are on the shuttle during a typical class?

A. Up to 20. If we have students on board beyond 6th grade, we like to reduce the number of students do to their size. Room on board is at a premium.

Q. What do the students do on board the shuttle during classes?

A. There are a series of hands-on work stations on board the Spirit of Education. The students, working in pairs, move from one station to the next every 15 to 20 minutes.

Q. How long do students remain on board the shuttle?

A. From one to two hours.

Q. Do we ever receive complaints from the students?

A. Just one. When their time on board has expired, they don’t want to leave the shuttle.

Q. What are the work stations on board the shuttle?

Q. Who owns and operates the Spirit of Education shuttle?

A. The shuttle is owned and operated by the Dream Flight USA Foundation, a 501 C3 private foundation.

Q. What is the purpose of the foundation?

A. The mission of the foundation is to motivate students in the upper elementary grades to learn. The mission is accomplished using space, aviation, science, and hands-on learning.

Q. How long has the foundation existed?

A. The foundation was formed in 2003, and the first mission of the Spirit of Education occurred in June, 2006.

Milwaukee Mission A Success

Milwaukee Mission Continues

Milwaukee: Having completed its mission to Morgandale School on Wednesday, the shuttle docks at Maryland Avenue Montessori school, today.

The Spirit of Education returns to its home in Mosinee, WI after the end of classes this afternoon.

Shuttle Back in Milwaukee

The Spirit of Education shuttle is in southeastern Wisconsin this morning, beginning a two-day mission in the Milwaukee School District. Today, Dream Flight USA crew members Jack Gostisha and Barry Brubaker will be working with students from Morgandale School. On Thursday, the shuttle docks at Maryland Avenue Montessori School, also located in Milwaukee.

Barry Brubaker is the shuttle pilot, and Jack Gostisha is the on board teacher. Both are retired teachers with over 60 years combined teaching experience. The shuttle will return to its new home at Burnett Transit in Mosinee following classes on Thursday.

Wisconsin Teacher’s Convention

The Spirit of Education shuttle and crew welcomed hundreds of teachers on board during the annual teacher’s convention October 28 & 29. The convention was held at the Alliant Center in Madison. Milwaukee and Rockford Missions

The Spirit of Education docked at 3 Milwaukee schools and then took part in AirCamp 2010 at the Rockford, IL airport. In Milwaukee, the Byron Kilbourn School, the Wisconsin Conservatory of Life Long Learning, and the Ninety-fifth Street School, hosted the shuttle for three days, September 22, 23, and 24. AirCamp 2010 took place on Saturday, September 25. Pictures of all 4 missions can be found at www.dreamflightusa.com.
