Busy Mission Schedule

The shuttle and crew head to the Port Edwards Elementary School in Port Edwards, WI tomorrow morning.   Barry Brubaker will be the pilot for the one-day mission, and the on board teacher will be Marie Traska.

On Monday, January 19, the Spirit of Education will travel to Milwaukee for the annual Wisconsin School Board Convention.  Keith Karow will pilot the shuttle to the Midwest Express Airlines Convention Center.  While the actual event takes place January 21 and 22, the convention floor is built around the larger displays, including the shuttle.  The shuttle returns home shortly after noon on Thursday, January 22.

On Sunday, January 25, the shuttle returns to the Wausau 525 Snowmobile Championship at Sunnyvale Park in Wausau.

The annual two-week mission to the DC Everest Area School District begins on Monday, January 26.  All of the fourth grade students and teachers in the district are involved in the mission.

Our thanks once again go to Tony Yaron, the airport manager at Central Wisconsin Airport, and his staff for providing hangar space for the shuttle during the two-week mission to the DC Everest District.  The home base for the shuttle is at Progressive Travel in Spencer.  By being able to house the shuttle overnight at CWA, rather than putting on the extra miles back to our home base every night, the district realizes significant savings in mileage fees.

Purdue University Launch Delayed

The Dream Flight USA shuttle mission to Purdue University, planned for October 14 through October 20, has been postponed.  Our trip to West Lafayette, Indiana was planned to coincide with the NASA mission to the repair the Hubble Telescope.  While the astronauts, one of them a graduate of Purdue, were attending to the Hubble, our shuttle was to welcome on board 400 students from the area to participate in the on board work stations.

Both the NASA mission and our mission to Purdue have been postponed until early next year.  Initial reports indicate the missions may take place in February.

The NASA mission was cancelled when the Hubble Telescope experienced yet a new problem, one the astronauts had not trained for.  It will take time to conduct the necessary training to replace the malfunctioning equipment on the Hubble.

Meanwhile, the Dream Flight USA shuttle is set for its next mission; an October 6 evening launch program for the DC Everest 4th graders, their parents, friends, and anyone interested, at Kennedy Park in Schofield.  Prior to the launch program, which begins at 6 PM, the shuttle will be open for tours beginning at 5 PM.

Following the launch, the shuttle heads for a two day mission at the Campbellsport Elementary School in Campbellsport, WI.  Barry Brubaker will pilot the shuttle, Spirit of Education, and Marie Traska will be the on board teacher.

Our mission schedule and lots more information can be seen at www.dreamflightusa.com.
